Cancer

Definition:

This term of course covers very many different types of cancer.


Cause and scope for prevention:

It is emphasised in Exercise the Miracle Cure that physical activity can reduce the risk of breast cancer by 20% and of colon cancer by 50%. 


Diagnosis:

Usually by imaging and biopsy.  


Standard medical therapy:

Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. 


Benefit of exercise therapy:

COSA encourages all health professionals involved in the care of people with cancer to: 

Discuss the role of exercise in cancer recovery. Recommend their patients adhere to the 

exercise guidelines.


Refer their patients to a health professional who specialises in the prescription and delivery of exercise (i.e. accredited exercise physiologist or physiotherapist with experience in cancer. 


This was the first statement on the benefits and the action that was needed by the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia.
