With 2020 putting more pressure on healthcare services, digital innovation has never been more important. EXi has been rolled out to support multiple clinical rehab programs over the past few months, allowing them to continue to deliver their service whilst remotely monitoring their patients.
EXi provides a simple medically validated screening tool. The purposes of the pre-participation health screening are to identify people with medical contraindications that will be excluded until their condition is under control or until they have been reviewed by a medical professional.
EXi requires the user to input current health information that will help to build their personalised plan. The app will take a measure of their resting heart rate using either a phone's camera or an Apple Watch (they will need to be resting for 5 minutes before taking this reading).
Based on the known parameters for cardiovascular and metabolic disease risk, EXi will review the health inputs and generate a colour coded risk profile for the person's health (green, amber or red). EXi will tell the user what this means, what the risk is, and what the ideal range should be.
The user will have the option to select any combination of 23 long term physical and mental health conditions. The app will also consider any medication that will affect the persons heart rate or rhythm.
EXi provides users with the option to complete an audio-guided 6-minute walking test where the app will measure the total distance covered in that time via GPS tracking. The 6MWT is a validated medical test which provides information about the user's current fitness level, that can be repeated at 6 weeks and 12 weeks to measure progress.
The user's health data will generate a personalised exercise prescription, based on exercise intensity, which gradually increases over 12 weeks at a rate that is both safe and achievable for the user.
Low intensity aerobic exercise, will mildly increase heart rate and body temperature. We expect the person to be working in the range of 0 to 3 out of 10 on an exertion scale (mild exertion). Heart rate will be in the low intensity training zone.
Moderate intensity aerobic exercise, raising a person’s heart rate and warming the body, potentially sweating. We expect the person to be working in the range of 4 to 7 out of 10 on an exertion scale. Heart rate will be in the moderate intensity training zone.
High or vigorous intensity aerobic exercise is where the heart rate has increased significantly. We expect the person to be working in the range of 8 to 10 on an exertion scale (extreme exerting). Heart rate will be high intensity training zone.
EXi's weekly prescription comprises of either exercise minutes or step count. The app will track active minutes on the pink ring, via completed physical activity logged and will automatically capture step count (from phone or wearable device) on the purple ring. Only ONE ring needs to be closed to meet the daily target.
EXi provides the appropriate activity content suitable for the prescribed intensity level, leaving the person to choose how to complete each goal by selecting from EXi’s extensive library of workouts; home workouts, outdoor guided activities, Gym programmes and more. EXi tracks progress throughout the day, recording multiple shorter sessions encouraging the person to succeed with hitting their daily goals.
EXi celebrates every recorded activity. We want to encourage that anything is everything. We award a gold badge if 100% of their activity prescription is met, a silver badge if 80% of activity is completed and a bronze badge if 60% of the prescription has been achieved.
EXi prompts the person to record their health stats to measure the impact the EXi plan is having on their health. This data captured can be viewed in real time by the person's clinical team.
EXi prescribes the activities that are most appropriate to the person's intensity level. EXi houses an array of exercise programmes where the user can select how they wish to complete their weekly goals. The daily activity goal can be completed in stages throughout the day.
Our tracked walking programme will inform the user exactly how far they have walked. The audio will give precise instructions about warming up and setting a pace.
We have a range of bespoke home workout videos, each one is set at the right intensity level for their exercise plan (low, moderate or high intensity).
Our running programme is available on our high intensity stream if the user wants to work a little harder, and has a good health/fitness profile.
Our cycling programmes have all the functions of the walking programme above, giving a precise distance travelled along with a timer function with stop/start controls.
Our low, moderate and high intensity gym programmes will show how to confidently use all of the equipment in the gym. EXi will give clear instructions on speed, intensity, incline and revolution per minutes. A combination of the gym equipment can be used in a single session.
EXi encourages any type of physical activity that increases the person's heart rate to be completed in order to meet weekly goals. Our 'Other Exercise' feature allows other activities to be captured, recording the duration time, heart rate (beats per minute) and exertion level.
Safety is a priority: We check exercise heart rates and exertion scores to ensure the user is working at the correct intensity level. Our algorithm works out their cardiac training zones at low, moderate and high intensity.
