EXi is an evidence-based, NHS approved and award-winning app which analyses user health and fitness and prescribes a personalised physical activity programme. Set at exactly the right intensity for each person, the app will help users to safely and gently increase their activity levels and improve their health.
The user can specifically tailor their programme to any number of 23 physical and mental health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease and depression, with all of the necessary safety features built-in. EXi follows the latest medical guidelines for exercise prescription.
Activity and health outcome data is delivered directly back to health and fitness professionals in real-time to help inform and plan care, via our secure, penetration tested and GDPR (general data protection regulation) compliant web-based data portal.
The app will track personalised health metrics, that are tailored to each user, and may include:
Developed by physiotherapists, with years of experience in getting people active, and with world-renowned physicians on the EXi team.
We are setting out to prove that prescribed physical activity is an exact science that can have the biggest impact on population health, by partnering with multiple clinical and academic institutions and delivering trials targeting diabetes, obesity, stroke, and cardiac rehab.
The EXi prescription is based on exercise intensity, which follows the medical guidelines. Working at the correct intensity level is key to enabling people with chronic conditions to exercise safely and to ensure they are getting the maximal health benefits. EXi works out the user's personalised exercise intensity training zones which adjusts if they are taking medication to affect their heart rate or rhythm. We encourage people to actively track their heart rate during exercise with an Apple Watch or they can check their heart rate with the phone camera after their exercise.
For ease of use and accuracy in monitoring heart rate, we have a bespoke Apple Watch app. The EXi app will inform people in real-time to ease off or work harder based on their personalised prescription.
"To say that EXi has changed my life is an understatement. 19 weeks ago, I was overweight and incredibly unfit. Then I joined EXi and was hooked. Having a workout plan tailored to me has been a crucial part of my success. Knowing that my health issues are being factored in gave me the confidence to throw myself into this. If you're considering downloading an exercise app, I strongly recommend this one."
“I have found EXI very straightforward to use and it has definitely made me more active. The app also links with other apps so any other activity you do shows in EXI. Keeping a track on all your stats is very handy as you see a week by week account of where you are. Motivational messages on your activity target are really good as it does give you a little buzz to carry on.”
“EXi is a good conscience on my shoulder. It allows me to monitor what I am doing and the linked GPS tracker is really handy to know how far I have walked. Thank you for your encouragement, the messages are rewarding and make you reflect how to go beyond a bronze star. With leukaemia and reactive arthritis I need a bit of a push but I also need to watch myself!”
"The information on the patients was really fascinating and a useful tool to identify the [people] motivated, ambivalent or not ready to make a lifestyle change. What they say in the consultation and what they then do after enrolling in the programme is so useful to me so I know which tactic I need to adopt when I next speak to them, whether that is putting on the brakes and working them up more or stepping on the gas for those in a determined place."
